Bandera American Legions Pledge Support for Youth Initiatives in Bandera County.

Recently at the Lakehills Community Center Youth Gala, American Legion Post #410 and American Legion Post #157 announced donations to support Bandera County youth programs.

Ron Clarke of the Lakehills Post presented a $500 donation to the Lakehills Community Center Youth Program and then surprisingly announced that both Bandera County American Legion posts would join together to provide $1,700 to the Hill Country Samaritansfor the “Back to School Bash” after another sponsor stepped away from providing the backpacks in which all the supplies were loaded. The Lakehills American Legion Auxiliary is also considering matching support later this month, which could raise the total contribution to more than $2,500.

Bandera County American Legion members agree with Lakehills Commander Jim Schledorn and Bandera Commander Rick Olivarez who stated “helping Bandera ISD students is important because many families struggle with the cost of school supplies. Backpacks, notebooks, calculators, and other essentials help students start school prepared, confident, and ready to learn and become better citizens”.

Both posts said they are proud to support programs that help Bandera County families and youth succeed.

The Legion also reminded the community about upcoming events, including the Armed Forces Day “Shrimp Fest” in Bandera Post #157 this Saturday and the Lakehills Auxiliary poppy fundraiser on May 23 honoring fallen service members at the Lakehills “4-Way” starting at 9:00AM.

In addition, American Legion Post #410 announced the return of its annual Independence Day celebration on July 4th in Lakehills, featuring the Annual July 4th Parade, live music, and the community BBQ. Businesses, organizations, and clubs are invited to join the parade. The 27th Annual July 4th Parade kicks off on Park Road 37 near St. Victor’s Chapel at 11:00AM with live music by the “Scott Crofts Band” on the Gazebo beginning at 1:00PM, and the now locally famous chicken BBQ serving for dine-in or take-out at 12:00PM.

If your business, organization, or club would like to participate in the July 4thparade, you may submit your free parade entry by calling Cody of the Lakehills American Legion at (210) 968-8383.
