Story:
- Beginning over four years ago, the Lakehills Community Center has a favorite activity geared toward quality time spent together as families. Family Activity Night is sponsored by the Lakehills Community Center using funds sources such as grants, local businesses, and the annual Medina Lake Cajun Festival. The program is geared toward promoting family activities that can be shared and enjoyed by parents, children, and siblings alike.
- The Lakehills Community Center’s Family Activity Night (FAN) season at Lakehills Community Center is wrapping up their 2024 activity season with a celebration on Friday, October 25th from 6:30-8:30PM.
- Kelly Beedle, the Family Activity Chair stated “One Friday night each month from January through September these kids and their families have had fun enjoying various stimulating activities, have learned, and grown together. They knew that every month that their participation was earning tools for their toolbox to be given out at the October Family Activity Night celebration. In the 2024 season, they studied aerodynamics and flight, hydraulics, electromagnetics, lasers. and more.
- From its beginning this has been a free activity to the local community made possible through the challenging work of the LHCC volunteers in fundraisers such as the Medina Lake Cajun Festival and Christmas Candy Sales, as well as designated donations. In 2024 a youth program grant from The Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country and generous sponsorship from the Lakehills True Value gave this program an incredible boost and launched the new Youth Activities Program for sixth thru twelfth grade kids.
- The families and their children have had firsthand experiences with beeswax candle making, drones, DC motors, straw rockets, and magnetic levitation to name just a few. These STEM related activities foster not only participation but an understanding of how the world works around them. On October 25th we will have a wrap-up party and at 7:15PM hand out the toolboxes with tools that the children have earned by participating in these activities. Would you please join us for this special time that you helped to make possible? Come at 7:15 for this award portion of the evening or join us from 6:30-8:30 (or any part of it) to see what Family Activity Night is about as we prepare for the 2025 Family Activity Night season.”
